Poultry
Chicken and Turkey
This is a tough one for most people. I love chicken and turkey, but most of these animals in the U.S. are fed corn and soy products. This makes them corn and soy bombs disguised as chicken or turkey. If you have access to birds that feed themselves, the ones that graze for bugs and such, then this is a good option for you. Some specialty farms produce high-quality birds and don’t feed them corn or soy, but they’re more expensive. I’m not against this protein source as long as you can ensure your food is corn- and soy-free. Search the web for low-lectin farms in your area, or try my two favorites: Lectin-Light Chicken and US Wellness Meats.
Beware of the “organic” and “free-range” labels. Often, this means the animals were fed organic corn and soy. I have seen corn- and soy-free eggs at Sprouts and Whole Foods, so those might be an option as well, but keep in mind that some people are sensitive to egg proteins.
